Tight UJs would create uneven steering feel almost immediately. The UJ must also move freely throughout its full operating angle with no sign of stiffness.
Torque the Clamp Bolts Correctly
Use a torque wrench and ensure that you have set the clamp bolts to the correct torque setting as stipulated by the part manufacturers (refer to the technical drawing for the component). There is a risk of damage to the steering column jacket if over-torqued and it can cause the fitment to move if under-torqued.
Confirm the Steering Wheel Sits Centred
This test should be performed after fitting the steering column, and the car should be driven slowly along a straight road. Check the steering wheel is sitting level and centrally. If not, recheck the column for proper alignment before returning the car to the road.
